The invention relates to the synthesis of bioactive chemical compounds, in particular to synthesis of L-cysteine S-pyridine substituted derivatives and structural analogues thereof. Disodium salt of 2-(pyridine-4-ylthio)succinic acid is prepared by substitution reaction of 4-chloropyridine hydrochloride with 2-mercaptosuccinic acid followed by neutralization with sodium hydroxide solution.
