314,482. Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Co., (Assignees of Schwantes, J. A.). June 28, 1928, [Convention date]. Soaps, powdered, shredded, and granulated.- Soap shreds are formed by beating a mixture of hot semi-fluid soap and compressed air to a froth, shredding the mixture, and drying. For example, liquid soap at about 80‹ C. in a tank 14 is forced through pipes 17, 21 to a mixer 22 while air is pumped in through a pipe 25. The frothy soap is discharged by a pipe 26 to a shredder 27 comprising oppositely-rotating concentric heads 34. The soap shreds are dried in a current of air at 260‹ F. in the drier 28. The mixer 22 preferably comprises a perforated agitator revolving in a volute casing having a cover to the centre of which the feed pipe 21 is attached. The tank 14 and pipe lines are suitably steam-jacketed.
