<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable continuous measuring of a melt layer thickness of a powder when continuous casting. <P>SOLUTION: A method for measuring a melt layer thickness of a mold powder when continuous casting is performed when the reflection of microwaves at an interface between a powder part and a melt layer of a mold powder cannot clearly be obtained. The correlation for a melt layer thickness of the mold powder between a molten steel bath level measurement value L1 obtained according to the reflection of microwaves, which are affected by the average permittivity of the powder part and the melt layer of the mold powder, and the difference between the molten steel bath level measurement value L obtained according to an eddy current sensor, which is unaffected by the average permittivity, ΔL1 (=L1-L), is determined in advance, and the mold powder melt layer thickness is determined on the basis of the correlation that was determined in advance. The melt layer thickness of the powder used for continuous casting can be measured continuously and in favorable accuracy, thereby there is effectiveness for the development of a powder and the operation control/quality control. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
