The cross has two beam splitter layers (T1R2, T2R1) for splitting an incident light beam into two lights (1, 2) such that one of the lights is transmitted, and the other light is reflected, where the two lights exhibit two different quality, respectively. Two reflection layers (R) reflect the two lights, and a cruciform arrangement is provided with four arms such that four quadrants are formed and limited by the arms. The first and second arms are formed by the beam splitter layers, respectively, and the third and fourth arms are formed by the reflection layers. An independent claim is also included for a beam splitter.
