Electrodes.-Instead of the usual wrapping round the dolly 2 of a dry cell, the dolly is coated with a composition consisting of a fibrous material such as wood pulp, hair., asbestos or cotton linters mixed with a flake material such as graphite, mica or aluminium bronze and a colloid such as starch. The composition may be made by first boiling a mixture of wood pulp, starch and water until the starch is gelatinized and then adding powdered graphite and stirring. The dollies are dipped in the mixture when cold and then suspended upside down to dry. They may then be dipped in wax to form an insulating spacing member 10. The composition may also be applied to the dollies by painting or spraying. The electrolyte described in Specification 128,332 ,may be used. Specification 135,502 also is referred to. |
