EXPANDABLE POLYSTYRENE BEAD WITH SUPERIOR ADIABATIC AND FLAMEPROOF EFFECT AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME UNDER MICROWAVE IRRADIATION

PURPOSE: An expandable polystyrene bead is provided to manufacture expandable polystyrene bead with excellent heat insulation and flame retardancy by coating heat-insulating powder with chlorinated paraffin on the surface of the expandable polystyrene bead. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method of an expandable polystyrene bead comprises: a step of coating 0.1-10 parts by weight of heat-insulating powder which is mixed of one or two kinds selected from a graphite with the particle diameter of 1-70 micron, aerogel, expandable vermiculite and diatomite, with 0.1-5 parts by weight of a chlorinated paraffin; a step of mixing the coated heat-insulating powder with 100.0 parts by weight of an expandable polystyrene particle; and a step of mixing 0.1-5 parts by weight of water into the mixture; and a step of penetrating the mixture into the surface layer of the expandable polystyrene particle by irradiating with microwaves while compress-stirring the mixture with 20-500 rpm.
