Data received from a vehicle (e.g. aircraft 2, 6, 10, 14, 18) indicates (or can be used to derive) a current position, heading and trend (i.e. turning or going straight) of the vehicle. An icon is displayed that indicates either the current position, heading and trend (4, 8, 12, 16, 20) or a future position (46, 50, 54, Fig.4) and heading of the vehicle. In the former case, the symbol placement and orientation indicate the current position and heading; whilst a line extending from it indicates the current vehicle trend (e.g. it may have a radius that indicates a vehicle turn radius). The data may be obtained via ADS-B technology and may be displayed in a cockpit navigation display (relating to the ownship or other aircraft) or an air traffic control (ATC) station. |
