<p>A network communications system for interfacing, within the data-link layer, a non-IEEE 802 compatible data communications network with an IEEE 802 compatible data communications network, comprises: modems associated with each of the non-IEEE 802 compatible network and the IEEE 802 compatible network, said modems being configured to forward network data at the data-link layer, means for interfacing the non-IEEE 802 compatible network protocol communication within an IEEE 802 compatible physical layer so that the non-IEEE 802 compatible layer frame appears as an IEEE 802 compatible layer frame, and bridging means for interconnecting the IEEE 802 compatible network communication with the said interfaced non-IEEE 802 compatible network communication.</p> |
