The invention provides an organometallic compound as an emitter compound, in which a metal atom, especially iridium or platinum, is bound by an organic ligand to give a homoleptic complex, or by organic ligands in a mixture with one or more saturation ligands to give a heteroleptic complex. The inventive organic ligand has a nitrogen-containing 5-membered or 6-membered ring, the nitrogen atom of which forms a complex bond to the metal atom, and a [2.2]paracyclophane group bonded to the nitrogen-containing 5- or 6-membered ring, at least one carbon atom of which forms a further bond to the metal atom.
