Moulding wheel tyres. -In a tyre mould wherein a number of segmental matrices are disposed in the mould edge to edge, the joints between the segments are substantially obliterated by forcing a small amount of the material of which the segments are formed into the said joints. As shown in Fig. 6, the segments axe formed, at their abutting edges, with beads 16<1>, 17<1>. The segments are machined as shown on the dotted lines 16, 17, and when the machined faces are together in the mould and the segments bolted in position, the beads are forced into the joint, e.g. by burnishing. As shown in Fig. 2, the segments 10, 11 meet in a central plane and are secured to the mould body parts 2, 3 by screws 15. Vent passages 20 are provided. The mould parts 2, 3 may be heated before the insertion of the segments 10, 11. |
