The production method for a positive electrode active material according to the present invention is a method of producing a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery mainly composed of an olivine-type lithium manganese phosphate compound, wherein the olivine-type lithium manganese phosphate compound is a compound represented by the general formula Li(MnaM1−a)ZPO4 (where, M represents at least one type selected from the group consisting of Al, Mg, Zr, Nb and Zn, a satisfies the relationship of 0.5 <a≦̸1, and Z satisfies the relationship of 1.0<Z≦̸1.1), and is synthesized by mixing starting raw materials, which are a lithium source, a manganese source and an elemental M source, under a condition in which a molar ratio (charge ratio) X of (Mn+M)/Li is set such that 1.0<X≦̸1.1 and Z≦̸X. |
