PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for diagnosing the pressure sensor of an automatic transmission are provided to secure the stability of the automatic transmission by preventing the generation of additional damages due to the malfunction of the pressure sensor. CONSTITUTION: An RPM detecting part provides the information of engine RPM to a controlling part in order to verify the starting status of an engine. A temperature sensor provides the temperature information of transmission oil generating line pressures and duty pressures to the controlling part. A pressure sensor provides the pressure information the transmission oil generating line pressures and duty pressures to the controlling part. The controlling part diagnoses the occurrence of malfunction and outputs the result of the diagnosis. A method for diagnosing the pressure sensor of an automatic transmission includes the following: the RPM of the engine and the temperature of the transmission oil are detected, and whether the detected value satisfies the diagnosing condition of the pressure sensor is verified(S101, S102); if the detected value satisfies the diagnosing condition of the pressure sensor, the output of the pressure sensor is detected after a pre-set period of time(S104, S105); the whether the output is excessive to a set error range is verified(S107); and if the output is excessive to the set error range, a malfunction code is saved and a security mode starts. |
