PURPOSE: A portable terminal docking-connected with an external device and an application execution method thereof are provided to improve user convenience by executing an application corresponding to the external device when docking the portable terminal to the external device. CONSTITUTION: When a docking sensing signal according to docking with an external device is received through a docking interface unit(170), a docking agent(182) obtains docking interface information of the external device from the external device. The docking agent obtains driving application information by using an application table mapping the docking interface information with the driving application information. The docking agent executes an application corresponding to the external device according to the driving application information.
