PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for detecting the number of disconnection in a glow plug are provided to prevent a start failure and the generation of foreign matters without inspecting a car. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(100) for detecting the number of disconnection in a glow plug comprises a current measuring unit(160), a reference current value generating unit(170), and a disconnection detecting unit(180). The current measuring unit measures the value of current flowing in the glow plug. The current measuring unit outputs a current value to the reference current value generating unit and disconnection detecting unit. The reference current value generating unit generates an average current value. The disconnection detecting unit detects the number of the disconnection by comparing the current value to the reference current value.
