摘要 Disclosed is a method for operating an actuator, such as a fuel injector, of an internal combustion engine. The method comprises the steps of periodically repeating a control cycle including the steps of measuring an exhaust gas temperature and operating the actuator on the basis of the measured temperature and a temperature set-point. During a sequence of these control-cycles, the value of the temperature set point is changed from a first value, the current temperature, to a new set point value. The new set point value is based on the current temperature and the final target temperature. The method provides fine control of exhaust temperature fluctuations to ensure that the exhaust temperature gradually approaches the target temperature at a controlled rate and prevents overshoot of the target exhaust temperature which could damage a catalyst in the exhaust arrangement. In the embodiments the method is a form of closed loop correction used to provide the correct temperature of exhaust gas when regenerating a catalyst during de-NOX or de-SOX purging of a catalyst. A computer program and program product for carrying the method are also claimed.
