The method comprises: monitoring the communication network for determining values taken over time by network variables; determining statistically significant links between the network variables according to the values taken over time by the network variables, the network variables and the statistically significant links forming a network variable graph; receiving an alert message indicating a faulty network variable; determining a cause network variable for the faulty network variable in the network variable graph.
