<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To search at a high performance with low power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: An asynchronous search circuit includes: a comparison part which compares a first rule information among a plurality of pieces of rule information corresponding respectively to each search type for determining whether or not to permit the passage of a packet with the information about a packet that is received, the comparison part being provided by a plurality of numbers and having a different received packet for each comparison part; a comparison circuit control part which, in the case where a plurality of comparison parts receive a common first rule information, controls the comparison part to perform a comparison process, and when the comparison between the first rule information and the information about a packet is completed or when no packet is received, generates a second signal indicating the process has been completed; and a reading part which, in the case where all second signals are received from a plurality of comparison parts, reads out a second rule information which is different from the first rule information and transmits the second rule information to the plurality of comparison parts.
