PURPOSE: A method is provided to improve the corrosion resistance of a steel material easily and without the addition of alloy elements by forming a deep decarburized layer on the steel material. CONSTITUTION: A method for improving the corrosion resistance of a steel material comprises the steps of: heat-treating a hot-rolled steel material, setting a desired depth for forming the decarburized layer, setting the temperature and time ranges of heat treatment for obtaining the desired depth, and additionally heat-treating the hot-rolled steel material.
