发明名称 Improved manufacture of threads of textile material
摘要 <PICT:0344414/IV/1> <PICT:0344414/IV/2> Threads and fabrics are impregnated with an aqueous dispersion of an elastic or plastic material such as rubber, gutta-percha, balata or the like under a fluid pressure, so that the elementary fibres are bound together and the constituent parts of a twisted or cabled thread are isolated from one another by the impregnating material. This is effected by placing the threads in contact with the impregnating material for a sufficient length of time, penetration being accelerated by vacuum or pressure or both. Fig. 1 shows an apparatus for impregnating with the use of increased and diminished pressures. The vessel a receives the threads which are wound on bobbins d held on the central perforated tube f by means of a clamping device g. The container b stores the impregnating liquid, and is provided with a gauge glass g1 and a filling vat i. The two vessels are connected together as shown, and each is connected to a compressed air supply at r and to a vacuum pipe at o. By manipulating the cocks in suitable succession, the container a is first subjected to diminished pressure, the impregnating liquid is transferred thereto, and compressed air admitted to the space above the liquid. When impregnation is complete, a vacuum is created in the vessel b and the liquid forced back into it. By causing vacuum to act in the container a, the bobbins exude the excess of impregnating liquid. The operation may be repeated two or three times. If desired, the impregnated threads or fabric may be subjected to a further treatment at atmospheric pressure in the apparatus shown in Fig. 2. The thread 1 coming from the bobbin 2 passes through the brush 3, between the bristles 7 of a brush secured to the hinged cover 8, then through a brush 10, and a brush 12 which reciprocates across the path of the thread, and is finally wound on to the reel 14. The impregnating liquid is placed in the recess 16. The thread is passed through several baths in succession, or through the same bath several times. When rubber latex is used, any suitable substance is added for avoiding premature coagulation. The treated threads may be vulcanized, or woven into fabric and vulcanized. Fabrics, ribbons, or tapes may be treated in the same manner.
