摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader including an original detection function having less erroneous detection of an original width.

SOLUTION: The image reader includes: an original platen on which the original being an image reading object is placed; a platen cover for holding the original on the original platen; a carriage for moving when the original is read along the original platen; a plurality of original size detection light sources installed in a width direction of the original on the carriage; an original scanning light source arranged in the carriage apart from the original size detection light sources; and a control section for controlling the original size detection light sources to emit light when at least a size in the width direction of the original is detected.
