<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small size distortion correcting prism, which has high optical performance able to satisfactorily correct distortion of an image caused by a two-dimensional scanning mirror, and which is easy to be installed and fitted, and to provide a small and thin type optical apparatus, which has the prism. <P>SOLUTION: The distortion correcting prism PR is a junction prism formed from first and second prisms P1 and P2. The first optical face S1-1 and a third optical face S2-1 are joined together, and a flat face perpendicular to the first and second optical faces S1-1 and S1-2 are parallel to a first scanning direction V. An apex angle K1 formed by the first and second optical faces S1-1 and S1-2 is larger than an apex angle K2 formed by third and fourth optical faces S2-1 and S2-2, and the difference between the apexes K1 and K2 is equal to an apex angle K3 formed by the second and fourth optical faces S1-2 and S2-2.
