<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber containing a plurality of cavities extending in a fiber axis direction at a high yield and low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber production process comprises a glass rod production step to produce a glass rod 10, a preform production step to insert the glass rod 10 into a jacket tube 20 to produce an optical fiber preform, and a drawing step to produce the optical fiber by drawing the optical fiber preform. In the preform production step, the glass rod 10 is inserted into the jacket tube 20, and the glass rod 10 and the jacket tube 20 are welded together at a first end side 41 and a second end side 42 while keeping evacuated state of the jacket tube inner space 21 between the glass rod 10 and the jacket tube 20 to seal the jacket tube inner space 21 in an evacuated state and obtain the optical fiber preform. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
