The device has a supervisor (140) for determining dysfunction state of a part i.e. power unit (110), of a vehicle (100). A memory unit is writable by the supervisor, and records the dysfunction state determined by the supervisor. An accident sensor (155) detects a collision event of the vehicle and outputs a signal during occurrence of the event. A conveying unit (130) conveys the output signal to the supervisor. A prohibiting unit prohibits a writing access of the supervisor when the signal is output. The memory unit comprises a volatile memory (145) i.e. RAM, and a non-volatile memory (146). An independent claim is also included for a method for supervising a car.
