The device (1) has a coolant circuit (5) through which cooling fluid e.g. glycol, is utilized for extracting heat generated by a set of cells (2) of a battery. A set of polymeric receiving compartments (3) is utilized for receiving cells of the battery. A compressible elastic material layer is arranged for ensuring thermal continuity between the receiving compartments and a portion of a surface of the cells when the socket and the portion of the surface are engaged in the receiving compartments.
