The invention relates to a method for controlling the torque exerted by the heat engine of a hybrid motor vehicle comprising a drive train including a heat engine and an electric machine. The method comprises the following steps consisting in: determining if the value of the torque required in the drive train is within a value range in which the torque of the heat engine cannot be controlled; and, if the value of the torque required in the drive train is within said value range, shifting the operating point of the heat engine by using the electric machine to apply at least part of the value of the torque required.
