The device has a housing for accommodating a gauge. A handle (12) is provided at an end of a rod (11) of the gauge. A visual inspection unit is provided at another end of the rod to visually inspect an oil level when the gauge is removed from the housing. A sealing unit i.e. O-ring (22), is arranged between the housing and the gauge when the gauge is placed in the housing. A guide unit guides the gauge between a free position and a locking position, where the guide unit consists of pins slidable in helical ramps (23, 24). A blocking unit blocks the gauge in translation and rotation movements. The rod is made of metallic material or composite material.
