The method involves determining an operating strategy of a motor vehicle from a predetermined set of operating strategies depending on an operating variable of the motor vehicle. The operating strategy is assigned to an indicator value which characterizes the operating strategy. The control variables of the actuators are determined depending on the determined operating strategy and one of the operating variables of the motor vehicle.
