In this elevator system, a car ascends and descends in a shaft. The operation of the car is controlled by an elevator controller. An evacuation operation input means, by which an evacuation operation command signal for forcing the car to carry out an evacuation operation is inputted, is provided on at least one landing. The elevator controller makes the car carry out an evacuation operation in accordance with the evacuation operation command signal from the evacuation operation input means during an emergency evacuation.
