PURPOSE: A high precision width measuring device and a method using the same are provided to measure the width of a steel strip by receiving signals of a camera corresponding to the width information of the steel strip. CONSTITUTION: A high precision width measuring device(100) comprises a light source(210), a plurality of cameras(220), a converter(300), and an operation PC(400). The light source is arranged under a steel strip(1) which consecutively moves. The cameras are arranged over the light source at a constant space along a width direction of the steel strip and detect lights from the light source. Plural cameras which are possible to detect lights according to the width of the steel strip are selected and image information from the selected cameras are input to the converter. The operation PC detects the information of an edge of the strip by using the input image information and calculates a coordinate value, thereby calculating and outputting the width of the strip.
