[Class 89 (iii).] A stapling machine, particularly for use in the manufacture of corrugated cardboard cartons, is provided with adjustable guides whereby the direction of travel of the work may be varied, for example to cause the staples to lie parallel to, or at an angle across, the corrugations. As shown, the machine comprises a fixed stapling head 11 and a work-feed table 15 on which guides 16 are adjustably mounted. A tongue 17 carrying, at its extremity, a clenching anvil 23 is carried by a bracket 19. The tongue can be secured to either of two relatively inclined pins 20a, 20b on the bracket by means of a sleeve 22 and screw 22a. The guides 16 are adjusted to correspond with the angular position of the tongue, and the anvil 23 is adjustable in the tongue. The tongue is formed with ledges 17, 17a which separately support the edges of the work to be joined together until the work moves towards the stapling position. The starting treadle 13 is adjustably mounted in the machine frame by arms 24 and screws 25a. |
