The charger has a controllable current source (2) to which a battery (1) to be charged is connected. An oscillator (3) and a modulator (4) are connected to the current source. A temperature sensor (15) is provided for measuring temperature of battery. A voltage regulator (11) is provided to output control voltage to current source. The temperature sensor is connected to voltage regulator through a limiter (13) and a temperature regulator (14). An independent claim is included for method for rapid charging of battery.
