<p>The present invention relates to topical formulations that include lipid microcapsules formed from tocopherol, tocotrienol, or mixtures thereof; a stabilizer/surfactant component; and an aqueous component. The lipid microcapsules may be formed without the use of steroids, preservatives, initiators and/or oils. The topical formulations are capable of delivering transdermal active agent(s) such as vitamin D through the skin and into the bloodstream without the use of skin penetration enhancers. In certain embodiments, the topical formulations also able to deliver topical active agent(s) such as sun-protecting agents to the surface of the skin where they remain, while simultaneously delivering the transdermal active agent(s) through the skin and into the bloodstream.</p> |
