The device has a camera arranged fixedly in an inner side of a server-rack (1) for optoelectronic detection of the server-rack by using an imaging two-dimensional or three-dimensional process. Optical markers (3) e.g. barcode or data-matrix-code, are provided in the server-rack. The camera is arranged downstream of a digital signal evaluation unit. The evaluation unit evaluates server-rack-inner area with respect to the markers and determines position of information technology components (2) or transmits recorded image data to another evaluation unit.
