The device (10) has a switching shaft (11) i.e. round rod, comprising a stop link with an abutment unit that acts together with another abutment unit for realizing locking positions. A positioning unit (12) designed as a rocker switch is provided with brackets, and an operating element (22) is provided for rotatably moving the positioning unit. The operating element is designed as a spring element, piston or electromagnet. Recesses (16-18) are formed one behind the other in an axial direction of the shaft, and projections are attached to the positioning unit and formed in the axial direction.
