Governors &c.]. [Classes 57 and 110 (iii).] A hydraulic governor for engines as described in the parent Specification in which a supplementary adjusting member is arranged and which, on fluctuations in the load on the engine, acting upon the stream of governing fluid in the sense of adapting it to the altered load, before the fluctuation of load has had its effect in a variation of speed. The Figure shows the invention applied to a turbine generator in which the hydraulic governor comprises a quantity member 5 and a pressure member B which maintains constant pressure behind the quantity member. The governing fluid from the pump passes through the opening c and divides into two paths, one, through the ports 1, 4 controlled by the valves 9, 10. And the other through the quantity member 5 which adjusts itself to allow sufficient area at f for the flow of fluid and simultaneously adjusts the throttle valve of the turbine 16. Arranged on the rod 11 connecting the valves 9, 10 is a solenoid 13 connected to a current transformer 14 in the output of the generator 15. Variations in the load causes the valves 9, 10 to be adjusted and varies the flow of fluid through the quantity member before the fluctuation in load has had its effect on the speed of the turbine. A dashpot arrangement 20 is mounted on an extension of the rod 11 in order that small fluctuations in load shall not affect the governor setting. A resistance 21 is also arranged in the solenoid circuit in order that the governor may be set by hand.
