Articles which have to resist the attack of strongly corrosive chemical solutions such as solutions containing sulphuric acid, sulphurous acid, &c., are made from steel alloys containing 17-40 per cent of chromium, 6-25 per cent of nickel and 0,02-0,5 per cent of carbon and have a potential in contact with dilute sulphuric acid which is greater than the potential of hydrogen. About 0,2-3 per cent of molybdenum may also be present. The potential may be thus raised by cooling the alloys quickly from temperatures of about 950-1200 DEG C. Specification 13415/13, [Class 82(i), Metals, Extracting &c.], is referred to. |
