<p>PURPOSE: A random access memory controller including a common column multiplexer and sense amplifier hardware are provided to reduce manufacturing costs by reducing the number of pass devices to a single pass device in a read circuit path between a column multiplexer and a sense amplifier. CONSTITUTION: A random access memory controller includes a column multiplexer and sense amplifier pair. The column multiplexer and sense amplifier pair includes a column multiplexer(108) and a sense amplifier(112) which use a common circuit. A common circuit(114) is shared between the column multiplexer and the sense amplifier. A memory controller includes a single instance of the common circuit about the column multiplexer and sense amplifier pair. The common circuit includes a common precharge circuit, a common equalizer, or a common keeper circuit.
