[Class 132 (ii).] A golf-club shaft is formed of two short lengths 1, 2 of tapered metal tube, a sleeve 3 of rubber or other shock-absorbing material being permanently affixed to an end portion of one length 2 and said end portion being forced into an end portion of the other length 1 with a driving fit to ensure a torsional cushioning effect when the club is in use. The sleeve 3 is formed integral with a foundation layer 4 for the usual grip wrapping and is vulcanized to the upper length of tube 2, that part of the tube that is covered by the sleeve being reduced in diameter. After the tube 2 has been driven into the lower tube 1, a winding of electrician's tape 7 is applied to the lower tube to preserve the continuity of the taper. In a modification, the sleeve is carried by the outer surface of the lower tube, the upper end of which is driven into an upper tube of larger diameter.</p> |
