摘要 Dried oil seed cakes are ground finely and sieved the meal thus obtained being used with or without other feeding means as a fodder. The starchy material in the residues is saccharified by the action of enzymes or by heating in autoclaves with weak acids the sugar substances being extracted by diffusion. The cellulose residues from the diffusion process are heated with strong mineral acids (sulphuric acid, sulphurous acid, hydrochloric acid) at raised pressure and converted into alcohol by fermentation. The sugar solutions obtained from the disintegration of the starchy and the cellulosic materials may be united, neutralized by the addition of lime and the precipitate allowed to settle. The clear solution is then fermented after addition of yeast that has been grown in a malt extract and then acclimatized by gradual addition of the sugar solutions. The mash is distilled giving a mixture consisting mainly of ethyl alcohol with methyl alcohol, acetone, and aldehyde.
