The method involves forming a set of holograms or diffracting elements on labels (110), and capturing an image of the set of holograms or diffracting elements (160) carried by each label. A position of a characteristic element e.g. surface's center of gravity, of the set of holograms or diffracting elements carried by the label is determined (165). Information representative of the respective positions of the characteristic elements of the holograms or diffracting elements is stored (170), where each hologram or diffracting element is in the form of disk. An independent claim is also included for a device for manufacturing authentication labels and associating a signature to each of the labels affixed to products.
