<p>Process for hydrotreating at least one heavy hydrocarbon cut of which at least 1 wt.% of compounds has a boiling point of greater than 500[deg] C, comprises hydrodemetallization of the cut followed by hydrodesulfurization of obtained effluent, where the hydrodesulfurization step is carried out in the presence of hydrodesulfurization catalyst comprises, in the form of oxide, at least one metal from group VIB, at least one metal from group VIII and/or at least one metal from group VB of the periodic table present in the form of at least one polyoxometalate. Process for hydrotreating at least one heavy hydrocarbon cut whose at least 1 wt.% of compounds has a boiling point of greater than 500[deg] C, comprises hydrodemetallization of the cut followed by hydrodesulfurization of obtained effluent, where the hydrodesulfurization step is carried out in the presence of hydrodesulfurization catalyst comprises, in the form of oxide, at least one metal from group VIB, at least one metal from group VIII and/or at least one metal from group VB of the periodic table present in the form of at least one polyoxometalate of formula (H hX xM mO y)(q-), the polyoxometalate is present within an oxide based mesostructured matrix of at least one element Y1 comprising silicon, aluminum, titanium, zirconium, gallium and/or cerium, the matrix has a pore size of 1.5-50 nm and amorphous wall thickness of 1-30 nm, and the hydrodesulfurization catalyst is sulfurized prior to use in the process.
