The device has an arc guiding magnet (17) to channel flux lines present during separation of contacts (6, 7) of an ultra terminal type low-voltage circuit breaker so as to guide an arc in the separation of the contacts, where the arc is deflected laterally to one side or the other side of a plane containing the contacts under the influence of components of the circuit breaker. The arc guiding magnet includes a plate (19) formed of ferromagnetic material and positioned in vicinity of separation of the contacts, where the plate extends parallel to the plane. An independent claim is also included for an ultra terminal type low voltage circuit breaker.
