<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile communication system capable of exhibiting performance by fitting to a situation by appropriately using cooperative communication, in which a plurality of base stations perform radio communication with a mobile terminal in cooperation, and non-cooperative communication in which a base station performs radio communication without cooperating with other base stations. <P>SOLUTION: The mobile communication system includes a cooperative communication mode in which a plurality of base stations perform radio communication with a mobile terminal in cooperation, and a non-cooperative communication mode in which a base station performs radio communication without cooperating with other base stations. Radio communication is performed by the selective use of either the cooperative communication mode or the non-cooperative communication mode.
