<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device and a portable terminal that can present a software keyboard with high operability without executing a procedure for a position designation by a user. <P>SOLUTION: A character input device 100 comprises: an inclination detection section 107 for acquiring inclination information about a housing when detecting a display event on a character input screen displayed on a touch panel; a display direction discrimination section 121 for determining a display direction of the character input screen from the inclination information; a first holding hand discrimination section 120 for generating first holding hand information about a hand for holding the housing from the display direction of the character input screen and the inclination information; a layout table 114 for storing character input region information; and a display control section 105 for acquiring the character input region information from the layout table 114 on the basis of the display direction of the character input screen and the first holding hand information generated in the first holding hand discrimination section 120 and displaying the character input region on the character input screen. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
