<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably prevent stains and scratches on a head, a cap, a wiper, and the like, with a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a maintenance and recovery mechanism for maintaining and recovering performance of a recording head for ejecting an ink droplet, and allows the maintenance and recovery mechanism to be taken out to the outside of the apparatus. The maintenance and recovery mechanism includes: a determination device for determining whether the recording head is in a decap state where the head is not covered with the cap; a showing device for showing a state determined by the determination device; a lighting device for lighting the state showed by the showing device; and a power supply device for supplying power to the lighting device.
