PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment method for forming a carbon concentration gradient by quenching for a short time, and a heat-treated object heat-treated by the method.

SOLUTION: The heat treatment method for the heat-treated object 10 using a graphitic steel as a material includes: a first process (a), (b) for heating a surface layer of heat-treated object 10 for a fixed time at a heating temperature at which graphite 22 is solid-dissolved to a host phase 21; and a second process (d) for quenching by heating the surface layer of heat-treated object 10 at a temperature for quenching the surface layer of heat-treated object 10.
