The invention relates to a reinforcing device for a lower beam (1) of an opening, having a deformable flexible upper portion (2) which is designed to receive a lower edge of a motor vehicle windshield force-fitted onto said flexible upper portion when the windshield is installed on the motor vehicle. The device of the invention includes removable means for stiffening the lower beam of the opening, including at least a first (10) and a second (20) movable portion, which are pivotable relative to one another between a retracted position, and at least one extended position in which said first and second portions are capable of engaging so as to support the flexible upper portion (2) of the lower beam of the opening when the windshield is force-fitted thereon.
