<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording material conveying device and an image forming apparatus which can suppress such a trouble that the skew correction of a recording material corresponding to a skew amount is not performed, and consequently the accuracy of the skew correction of the recording material is deteriorated. <P>SOLUTION: A time difference ▵T between a detection time being a time when a first sensor detects the tip of paper and a detection time being a time when a second sensor detects the tip of the paper is acquired (step 102). Then, a time T1 is calculated using the time difference ▵T (step 103). Whether or not the time T1 is longer than a preset time ST is then determined (step 104). When it is determined that the time T1 is longer than the set time ST, the speed of a delayed portion of the paper P is changed from speed V1 to speed V2 after the set time ST elapses (step 105).
