PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively suppress expansion of a capacitor cell, a reduction in capacitance, and an increase in internal resistance after continuous charging, without deteriorating initial characteristics of an electrochemical device.

SOLUTION: The present invention provides an active material for an electrochemical device, which has a group represented by formula (1) on the surface. (In the formula (1), R1and R2each independently represent an alkyl group having 1-3 carbon atoms.)
