The invention relates to a method for reinforcing the levees of rivers, lagoons and lakes and controlling seepage therethrough, comprising the formation of a ditch along the length of the levee or dyke on the bank of the river, lagoon or lake. Subsequently, the ditch is reinforced with material extracted from the dyke, impermeable polyolefin membranes are inserted therein, the ditch is filled with sediments dredged from the bed or the river and, finally, said sediments are covered with earth.
